Creating a Layer

Hold key ‘c’ and left click on the timeline.

A color grid layer will appear.

If you want, you can expand it to see what it is rendering at the moment.

Good to know: The shortcut ‘c’ is a shortcut assigned to the Color Grid template, which you can edit in Template Editor window. You can assign a keyboard shortcut to every template in Template Editor window.

Select the layer and in the properties window, select the canvas you created in previous step:

The color grid will appear on the canvas.
