SICK Camera Setup

This guide explains how to connect and physically install SICK Visionary-T Mini cameras for use with LightTrack.

Hardware requirements
  • SICK Visionary-T Mini camera

  • Visionary mounting kit (recommended)

  • 24V DC power supply

  • Power cable: M12, 8-pin, A-coded (10 m recommended)

  • Ethernet cable: M12, 8-pin, X-coded to RJ45

  • 1 Gbit (or faster) network switch

  • Dedicated NIC (recommended)

Connecting the camera

  1. Assemble the SICK Visionary-T camera using the Visionary mounting kit.

  2. Connect the power cable to the camera and the 24V power supply.

  3. Connect the power supply to electricity and verify the front LED on the camera turns on.

  4. Connect the Ethernet cable to the camera.

  5. Connect all cameras to the network switch.

  6. Connect the switch to the computer.

  7. Set a static IP address on the computer network adapter.

    Static IP example

For best performance, use a dedicated NIC for cameras. Sharing the network with internet traffic is supported but not recommended.

Camera network configuration

Install and open SICK AppManager.

  1. Click Search to discover cameras.

  2. Select the first camera.

  3. Assign a static IP address.

  4. Repeat for all cameras.

Example configuration:

  • Camera 1: 10.10.10.10

  • Camera 2: 10.10.10.11

  • Camera 3: 10.10.10.12

Verify camera stream

  1. Open LightAct

  2. Open Devices window

  3. Add SICK Visionary Camera Receiver

  4. Select camera

  5. Click Receive and verify depth stream is visible.

  6. Repeat for all cameras.

Physical installation

After verifying cameras are working, mount them in the final position.

Recommended installation:

  • Same distance to the surface

  • Cameras perpendicular to the surface

  • Same orientation

  • Firm mounting (no vibration)

  • Minimum 20% overlap between cameras

  • Avoid reflective surfaces

Camera coverage

Mount cameras one by one.

  1. Mount first camera

  2. Verify coverage area

  3. Mount second camera

  4. Ensure that there's some overlap between cameras

  5. Continue with remaining cameras

Overlap is required for multi-camera tracking.

Measurements

After installation measure:

  • Camera height from lens to floor

  • Horizontal distance between cameras

Write these values down. They are required for LightTrack setup.
